Gallop to Victory at Tattenham Corner

- Colts 7
Unbelievable
tension was finally alleviated in the 59th minute of this nail-biter,
as Man of the Match Steven broke through the Warren Mead defence
to crack in the winner and send the crowd into ecstasy, ruining
the day for a brave home team.
Colts
started brightly today, with Steven sprinting past the defence and
scooping over the keeper after 6 minutes. This was followed by a
screaming shot from Donald that took the back out of the net 6 minutes
later. Warren Mead were not to be put to the sword so easily though,
and struck back after 13 minutes. Steven restored the two goal lead
with a blistering run and shot to make it 3-1 after 15 minutes,
but the boys were pegged back yet again by a Mead goal at the 20
minute mark.
Alfie
(Definitely on his best performance yet), Ben and Steven combined
brilliantly for the Colts' fourth, stuck away by the ever deadly
Steven for his hat-trick, but the home team fought back with two
goals in as many minutes to make it 4-4 at half time.
The
second half started with a brilliant flick from Ben and a goal from
Steven to regain the lead. Warren Mead sensationally went ahead
with two quick goals in the 11th and 15th minutes to make it 6-5
- now the match was really on and it was time for the Colts to dig
deep and show their fighting spirit.
There
was some truly heroic defending from goal scorer Donald, Scott and
Josh, driving the ball forward to set up chances for Stephen, Ben
and Greg. Toby and Sam continued to improve, while Nathan, Jack
and Alex looked masterly at the back. Grant worked hard in goal
to cover ground and smother oncoming attacks.
Tension
was at breaking Mead when the silky skills of Greg brought the equalizer
as he calmly controlled the ball in the box, beat five men and slipped
the ball under the goal keeper. The crowd were then treated to a
Bookham tidal wave as the boys piled on the pressure to finish with
a stunning Steven run and goal to win the match - What a climax,
What a Match, What a Win.

Kingstonian
9 - Colts 1
It
was a tough day in Thames Ditton. Kingstonians surged forward with
powerful runs and scintilating shooting to race to an early 3-0
lead. Colts fought back hard to gain a penalty, converted by Steven's
trusty left foot, but after that it was one-way traffic.
Colts
had no substitutes today so the defence was stretched to breaking
Mead - Jack put in a manful performance at the back this week, aided
and abetted as usual by a highly consistant Scott. Toby and Sam
made their 60 minute debuts and look like encouraging prospects,
while Greg and Steven played with their usual panache - but somehow
the penetration was just not there. Never mind - the season is still
new and there are plenty of opportunities to improve.

Colts
Outmuscled and Outshot
Colts
1 - Roundshaw 6
Roundshaw
put in a muscular performance to make life very difficult for the
Colts this week. The reds defended in depth and tackled hard - often
blunting searing runs from Stephen and Ben, gloriously fed by Greg
and Josh in midfield. Roundshaw got a 2-0 lead in the first half,
but the Colts had their best spell of the match, pulling one back
from a swerving Stephen corner. For a while the tireless running
of Scott and Donald to win the ball, and some scintilating attacking
looked like it was going to bring the equaliser - it was not to
be though and Roundshaw went in to half time 4-1 up.
A courageous
second half kept the score down to 6-1 in the end, Grant having
the busiest time with Scott, Nathan, Donald and Alex having to defend
courageously. In the end a disapMeading result, but plenty to build
on as we move forward.

Fightback as Colts Pipped at the Post
Oxshott
4 - Colts 3
The
Colts had to fight hard in their first ever 11 a-side match. A ferocious
onslaught from Oxshott saw the boys down 4-0 at the start of the
second half. The crowd thought it was all over but they had not
reckoned on Steven hitting his after-burners, and storming through
a startled Oxshott defence to rattle the cross bar with a stunning
left foot. The team caught fire, and an onslaught led by Steven,
Greg and Ben, ended in a hat-trick for Steven and a climactic goal
mouth scramble that so nearly ended in the equaliser.
What
a start to the season........a whole lot of scintilating football
still to come.

Gallop to Early Season Triumph
Final
- Colts 1 - Grayshott 0
A phenomenal
team performance, crowned by a dramatic single goal thriller in
the final, clinched Bookham's first trophy of the 02/03 season.
The final, against Grayshott was characterised by gritty determination,
tough tackling and ruthless finishing. Greg fought through the pain
barrier to lead the team to victory, while Steven's trusty left
foot put a plucky Grayshott team to the sword.
League
Phase
The
Colts saw off Franborough Sabres with a 3-0 win, Steven scoring
a brace with Ben opening his account for the season.
Woking
were quickly pummelled with four rapidly executed goals, Ben and
Steven bagging a couple each.
Next
up for the relentless punishment were Sherbourne, and although they
resisted more stoically, they were seen off by that man Steven,
this time with a single strike.
Frimley
provided a tougher test, fighting for a draw - Ben and Steven providing
the Bookham scores.
The
eventual finalists, Grayshot, also proved tough and the Colts fought
out a war of attrition ending in a scoreless draw.
The
final league game saw a 1-0 win for the Colts against Farnborough
Cougars - Cougars had a goal disallowed in the dying seconds after
a foul on Grant.
The
Colts won the league - a performance marked by great striking, and
phenomenal defending from Alex, Nathan and Josh. Greg's leadership
in midfield, aided and abetted by a very dynamic Josh and debutant
Toby kept the yellow wave rolling forward and closed off any potential
attack. Grant was at times totally idle, but had to stop a number
of runs and shots at crucial times.
Semi-Final
The
semi final saw the Colts against the Cougars once more. A tight
game ended in a 1-1 draw with Greg opening his account for the tournament.
Extra time started with a high intensity Blitzkreig, led by Greg,
concluding in a 45 second Golden Goal from the left foot of Steven
- Grayshott awaited in the final.
The
Final
A tough
match, memorable for Steven's goal and superhuman tackling from
Greg and a great team performance from everyone else, saw the boys
pick up their first trophies of the year and set the tone for the
rest of the season.
