Eagles Soar as Bookham Founder

15 September 2001 - 3-1 Loss to Epsom Eagles

Bookham displayed definite signs of ring rustiness today, demonstrated by the giving away of a 'soft' goal after less than a minute. They held on for the remainder of the first half, however, with strong performances by Jack, Sebastian and James. The second half started off as badly as the first with another defensive blunder leading to an Epsom goal, leaving the boys with everything to do. James led the comeback with a stinging shot which rebounded off the cross bar to be turned in by Sebastian. A furious assault commenced in which the Epsom goal was peppered with shots, none of which found their mark. The intense attacks were only halted by a breakaway Epsom goal in the dying moments of the game. An unrepresentative scoreline, but plenty of skill and spirit were demonstrated, providing cause for optimism for the coming season.
