West
Byfleet Scorpians U8B 0 - Bookham Colts U8B 8
Match report:
The fourth win in a row and one that did our goal difference the world
of good.
First half
Play could not have started better for the Colts with an opening goal
in the first few minutes. That set the pattern for the rest of the match.
The opposition lacked any real shape and we struggled to play our positional,
passing game but the goals kept on coming. West Byfleet had no attacks
on goal and Craig was even wishing for a penalty so that he could see
some of the ball, however he had to be patient, very patient! Having
said we struggled to keep our shape we did consistently manage to move
the ball down the wings resulting in good crosses and several corners.
Tom and Sam provided a solid base at the back, Josh on the left found
the net as did Danny I and Reilly who was playing the central role as
Jake was sub along with Charlie and Ben. Danny T worked well on teh
wing and hooked up with Reilly and Danny I to create many chances.
Second Half
The second half started with the team unchanged. The aim was go back
to basics of positional play with long and short passing. This was the
perfect oppotunity to make the ball do the work and send the opposition
running in circles. As play progress the goals stated to flow again
with anothr for Danny I and Josh and a couple for Reilly plus a penalty
awarded for hand ball in the box by the Scorpian's defender. The highlight
of the second half was probably Reilly unstoppable penalty curving just
inside the upright to nestle in the side nettling with power. Most player
on the pitch including the substitutes as they came on took turns to
queue up for a strike, hitting the post several times and forcing saves
from the overworked opposition goalie. At the end of the match we had
a clean sheet and 8 in the bag.
Managers comment:
A great result for us but perhaps not the most enjoyable game. Remember
the basics: position and passing, no ball watching or following the
ball around.
